Artist Info

Farzana Umi

Farzana Umi is an artist whose practice explores the boundaries between presence and absence, memory and identity. While her work is rooted in figurative painting, she distorts or erases facial features to visualize a state of being that is both present and absent.

Through the interplay of figures, nature, and the body, she builds layered narratives of emotion and memory using repetition and transformation. Although her work begins with personal experiences, it expands into broader reflections on the human condition.

Based in Dhaka, Bangladesh, she has exhibited internationally across diverse contexts, including Korea. Her participation in the residency program at Jeongmok Museum further expanded her practice, as she continues to develop a distinct visual language through painting and drawing.

Farzana Umi’s work delicately captures invisible emotions and inner traces, evoking new sensibilities within the tension between presence and absence.
